Sony launches Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus at ₹12,990

After choosing to defocus on India in March 2017, the smartphone maker launched two more new models Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus after recently launching Sony Xperia XZ1.

Sony Xperia R1 can be termed as an entry-level phone trying to establish in the entry-level 4G smartphone market in India. Currently, Xperia R1 and R1 Plus are notably the cheapest available Sony smartphones right now. Sony stated that the devices would be manufactured in India, with a plastic body and a 2.5D glass up front. They would feature the Sony’s hallmark loop design. Neither of the variants gets a fingerprint reader.

The 13MP primary camera and 8MP secondary camera are equipped with ‘Predictive Phase detection’ technology which makes it easier to focus on the face while taking a photo. The primary camera shoots the video at 108p@30fps.

The Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus run on a standard Snapdragon 430 chipset with Octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 505 GPU.

The phone comes with a 5.2 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 282 ppi at 720 x 1280 pixels. It is a dual-sim dual standby phone with expandable memory up to 256 GB. The Sony Xperia R1 comes with 16GB/2GB RAM, while Sony Xperia R1 Plus comes with 32GB/3GB RAM. Both the variants are available in Black and White colors.

The phone supports Type-C USB Port for charging and data transfer, and the 2620 mAh Li-ion battery provides enough power to run a full-day at the office.

Sony Xperia R1 is priced at INR 12,990, while Sony Xperia R1 Plus is priced at INR 14,990 because of the additional storage space and RAM. The phone comes with Android 7.0 Nougat, with an assured upgrade to Android 8.1 Oreo.
